Does your team call a metric something different from what Baremetrics calls it? Admins can rename any built-in metric so it matches the language your team already uses. For example, you can rename ARR to Run-rate ARR.
Everyone on your account will see the new name everywhere the metric appears. Only the name changes. Your numbers and how each metric is calculated stay exactly the same.
Who can rename metrics
Only account admins can rename metrics. Team members see the new names but can't edit them, and the same goes for visitors to your public Open Startup page.
How to rename a metric
Go to the metric's page, for example Metrics → ARR.
Click the small pencil icon next to the metric's title, just before the ⓘ icon.
Type the new name and click Save. The page reloads with the new name.
Where the new name appears
The metric's page: the title, the chart headline and the ⓘ info box heading
The Metrics menu
Dashboard widgets and the Add widget list, including shared dashboard links
Email and Slack reports
Goals and Benchmarks
Going back to the default name
Click the pencil icon and choose Reset to default. Saving an empty name does the same thing. Not sure what the original name was? Hover over the pencil to see it.
Naming rules
Names can be up to 40 characters.
A name can't match another metric on your account, whether built-in or custom. If you try, you'll see a message like: "There is already a metric called Net Revenue. Pick another name."
Names can't contain square brackets
[ ]or end in a version number like "v2".
What doesn't change
Your numbers. Renaming never changes the data or how a metric is calculated.
The API and MCP server. These keep the standard metric names, so your integrations won't break.
The ⓘ info box text. The heading shows your new name, but the description still refers to the metric by its standard name.
A few other places keep the standard name for now: the ARR tab in Revenue Picture, column headings in plans tables, revenue scenarios, and the list of built-in metrics to start from in Custom Metrics.
FAQ
Why don't I see the pencil icon?
Only account admins can rename metrics. Ask an admin on your account to make the change.
Will this affect other accounts I have access to?
No. A new name only applies to the account where you set it, and everyone on that account will see it.
Can I rename a custom metric this way?
You don't need to. Custom metrics are named in their own editor: open the metric, click Edit formula, then go to Details.
Why would I rename a metric?
To match what you report elsewhere and avoid confusion. Say your company defines ARR as the last 12 months of revenue. You can build that as a custom metric called "ARR," then rename Baremetrics' built-in ARR (12 × MRR) to "Run-rate ARR" so the two never share a name.
