Line Charts are probably your go-to chart for displaying both actual and forecasted data in the same chart. They're particularly handy for comparing two future scenarios, but can be used for comparing your performance against a previous forecast or a budget.
Here is an example chart displaying company's cash balance.
1. Select Add a Chart
Start by selecting Add a Chart at the bottom of your company's dashboard page.
2. Name Your Chart
Give your chart a name and select Line as your Chart Type.
3. Change the x-Axis Interval
Set the x-Axis interval to either Months, Quarters or Years.
4. Select the Report Period
The Report Period defaults to a Custom Date Range. You can also select from one of the pre-built Report Periods such as Last Month, Year-To-Date, or This Year. These ranges are dynamic, meaning that the last month's values are going to change as you close your books for the month.
5. Add Lines
Click Add a Line button to begin selecting the accounts you want to display in your Line Chart.
6. Select the Account
Select a desired account using the Account drop-down. Selecting the account will fill in the account name automatically, but you're able to edit it it under Name.
7. Select a Snapshot and a Scenario
Select the desired scenario and a snapshot using the drop-downs. In this example we are going to leave the Snapshot drop-down as Current, meaning our line is going to represent the financial model's current forecast and not a previously set budget.
8. Add More Lines (optional)
Repeat the steps #5-7 to add more lines to your Line Chart. Here's what adding an Aggressive scenario would look like.
9. Save
You should see something like this.
